BACKGROUND:

Victoria Adaobi Obasi hails from Ogboko, Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria. She is the daughter of Chief Fred and Ezinne Felicia Nnoham.

EDUCATION:

Prof Obasi started her early education at Holy Rosary Primary school, Oguta, and later attended Holy Rosary Secondary, Ihioma. She furthered her education at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri under University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN)

In 1984, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from University of Hull. In 1985 she got her Masters from University of Hull
In 1989 she bagged her doctorate degree from the University of Hull, England.

She also completed her National Youth Service Corps at Women Training College, Enugu, in 1980.

PROFESSION & ACHIEVEMENTS:

In 2011 – 2013, Prof. Victoria Adaobi Obasi served as the commissioner for education in Imo State

In 2017 – 2020, She served as vice chancellor of Imo State University

She has written five books, including “The implementation of continuous assessment in secondary schools in Imo State, Nigeria,” and published several journal articles in international journals.

During her tenure as Vice Chancellor, Prof Obasi implemented a number of innovative policies and initiatives aimed at improving the academic and administrative standards of the institution. She oversaw the construction of several new buildings, including a modern library, a female hostel, and a modern administrative complex.

She also ensured that the university’s academic programmes were fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and implemented a number of research-oriented programmes to encourage staff and students to engage in cutting-edge research.

In addition to her academic and administrative achievements, Prof Obasi is also a respected scholar and researcher. She has published several scholarly articles in local and international journals, and has also authored and co-authored several books in her field of study.

RECOGNITION & AWARDS:

  • Most Outstanding Vice Chancellor Award: Prof Obasi was recognized as the Most Outstanding Vice Chancellor in Nigeria in 2016 by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) for her achievements in Imo State University.
  • Distinguished Alumni Award: The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) conferred on Prof Obasi the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2018 for her contributions to education and leadership.
  • Prof Obasi won the Bursary Award for Excellence from the University of Hull three times consecutively in 1987, 1988, and 1989.
  • She is a member of several professional bodies in Nigeria such as the Nigeria Academy of Education and the Curriculum Organization of Nigeria (CON).
  • She is also a member of international professional bodies such as the College of Preceptor England (CPE) and the World Council of Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI).

Prof Adaobi is married to Sir (Chief) Charles Obasi of Dim Na Nume Isu Nwangele Local Government Area Imo State with Five Children
